Day 39 - Gods Promises: Psalm 84:11-12

Psalm 84:11-12 New International Version

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

12 Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.

God is a sun and a shield. Like the sun, God provides for us, nourishes us, and is always present. The sun provides hope with each new day, just as God gives hope in even the worst situation. Like a shield, God protects us and gives us security. We can hide behind Him and feel safe. But, a shield does no good just laying near by. It only protects when picked up and used appropriately. The same is true with God. If we don't acknowledge Him, if we don't get to know Him, if we don't truly depend on Him and walk with Him, we won't receive the protection, security, and peace that He freely offers us.

The Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. I've been thinking a lot about this portion of the verse. The more I meditate on this portion, the more I realize that this is absolutely true. Even the "bad" things of life are often blessings in disguise. When I look back on the past 5 years I recall many disappointing, difficult, scary, lonely situations. At the time they didn't seem like good gifts from God but now it is obvious that God allowed those things in my life because He withholds no good thing. I needed all the good and "bad" things of life to make me the person I am right now. As I walk into tomorrow, knowing that truth causes fear disappear and worry disintegrate.  God is in complete control. He will give me favor and honor and keep nothing good from me. He knows what is best for me and promises to give me everything I need. I just have to walk uprightly, seeking Him, loving Him, allowing Him to be my sun and my shield. Read More...

Day 38 - Gods Promises: Proverbs 13:25

Solomon tells us that the Godly and the wicked both have an appetite, they are both driven by inner motives, but while the Godly enjoys much satisfaction in their walk with Christ, the wicked are never satisfied.  Later on in Proverbs Solomon said, “For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast” (Prov 15:15).  Every day for the believer should be a feast where we eat, are full in God, and satisfied in His goodness.  Now, this does not mean that ambition is bad, or determination is somehow wicked, but what it does mean is that as a children of God we can aspire to maximize our purpose and potential, while being completely content in our current state.  I don’t mean a contentment that leads to stagnation, but rather one that leads to an internal and overwhelming peace.  This peace, God’s peace, is birthed out of the knowledge that we are in God, He is in us, and He will never leave us helpless or hopeless.  The writer of Hebrews said, “Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]” (Heb 13:5 AMP).  Greed has ruined many lives, but when we know that God is in us, on us, with us, and for us, we develop the ability to be content wherever we are (physically or financially).

Paul said, “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want” (Phil 4:11,12).  I too can say that I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation.  I am currently in Iraq.  Do I miss my wife?  Absolutely!  So I miss my children?  Dearly!  But do I know that I am here on purpose and I at peace with and in God?  Yes I am!

So what does this mean to you today? It means that the Father wants you to learn the secret of being content in Him.  This is about more than just money, or greed, or an insatiable desire for ‘things.’  It’s about knowing that God is with you wherever you are and in every situation.  Solomon described a wicked person who is never satisfied.  There is a difference between wanting to grow and ungodly ambition.  Never fall into the category of the latter.  Thank God for where you are today, no matter the situation, and receive His inner peace.

Confession for Today:  Father, I thank You for birthing inside of me an inner drive to grow, to develop in You, to evolve into the person You desire for me to be, and to maximize my purpose and potential, in the earth, before I die.  And I also thank You for blessing me to be able to find contentment along the way.  My desire for growth will never disrupt my inner peace in You.  Thank You Father for committing to never leave me helpless and to never relax Your hold on me.  Your presence gives me peace.  I enter this day with an inner drive to grow more, but also with an inner satisfaction for all that I have already grown in You.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen!

Day 35 - Gods Promises: John 11:25-26

John 11:25-26 New International Version (NIV)
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

As is often the case in John’s Gospel Jesus is recorded as using the same words with subtlety different meanings.

In verse 25 Jesus uses life to refer to resurrection life. So even the one who’s body is buried, if he is a believer, will live despite his death. He will be resurrected.

But in verse 26 Jesus speaks of one who lives and believes never dying. Here “lives” is probably referring to eternal life. John it is clear that eternal life is not something that believers will get in the future; it is something that believers have now.

So Jesus is saying that even if the outer man dies, the believer will live in the outer man again since Jesus is the resurrection. But more than that, the believer already has eternal life in the inner man and he will never die in the inner man. Read More...

Day 33 - Gods Promises: Philippians 4:19

 Philippians 4:19, NIV:

"And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." ... Philippians 4:19, NLT: "And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus."

In his conclusion of thanks to his readers, Paul encourages them. Paul was confident that God would meet their needs because they were generous in their giving. This is not a promise of wealth, or even an easy life. Rather, the concept of "need" has to be considered according to God's will. What we "need" and what we "want" are not always the same thing. That being said, God tends to bless those who will use the resources they have according to His purposes. This is something Paul observed specifically happening with the Philippians.

Their needs would be met through Christ, the one who made and controlled all things. They would never lack with Christ as their provider. From the earliest pages of Scripture, God has been known as the Lord who will provide (Genesis 22:14), affirmed by Peter as well (2 Peter 1:11). As Paul noted in 2 Corinthians 9:10, "He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness."

God promises to open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings on you today! But, you have to do your part of this verse. Your part is to be a faithful tither and be obedient to the Lord with your finances.

The truth is, we are all just stewards over the resources God has given us. When we are good and faithful stewards, the Lord entrusts us with more. He opens the windows of heaven. Have you ever thought about what kind of blessing would be so great that there would not be room enough to receive it? It may be hard to comprehend, but that’s what God’s Word promises!

Today, make the decision to be a giver. Be a tither. The tithe is the first tenth of your income. As the scripture says, get ready to prove the Lord because He is faithful. Thank Him today because He is going to pour out abundant blessings on every area of your life!

A lot of times, it’s easy to think that we’re not supposed to ask for too much, but the Scripture encourages us to go to God with all of our needs. He tells us to ask, and He longs to give you the desires of your heart. In fact, Jesus said, “You have not because you ask not.” When you step out and ask, it pleases Him and shows that your faith and trust are in Him.

Remember, when you pray, make sure there isn’t anything in your heart that would block your faith. Begin your prayers by surrendering every thought and attitude to the Lord. Ask Him to purify your motives and show you if there is any unforgiveness in your life. When you release those things to the Lord, it opens the door for Him to move mightily on your behalf!

If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.—2 Chronicles 7:14

When I am headed in the wrong direction, I thank God for the ability to turn around and go in the right direction. That is actually what true repentance is. It is not just a feeling of being sorry, but also a decision to turn and go in the right direction from now on.

We get into trouble through making a series of wrong decisions, and with God’s help, we will get our lives straightened out by a series of right decisions. It took more than a day to get into trouble, and it will take more than a day to get out. Read More...

It's important to understand their context in this chapter. Paul has just concluded quoting from Deuteronomy 30:11–14. There, God says to Israel that His command for them is not hidden or far away; it is already in their mouths and hearts. Paul has written that this is true, as well, for the "word of faith" in Christ. This "word of faith" is a reference to the gospel: the message of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We can see that the Lord Jesus’ words have authority and power and there is no one can say these words. God’s authority is everywhere, at every hour. Recalling that when Jesus did His work, Lazarus walked out from his tomb because of a single line uttered by the Lord; Jesus fed five thousand with five loaves of bread and two fish. All of these facts have witnessed that God’s authority truly exists. From Jesus’ words, we can know God’s authority and power. Moreover, His words remind us that we need to rely on God in everything and practically experience His work and deeds in real life. If we experience more, then we will understand we humans are powerless while God is almighty. At the same time, our faith in God will increase little by little.

Has God spoken things to your heart that haven't come to pass yet? Sometimes when we are believing for things, it's easy to let circumstances and the pressures of life drag us down. But when you make the choice to receive your promise by picturing it in your mind's eye, and declaring it with the words of your mouth, your faith becomes stronger. You begin to feel more confident. You begin to feel more settled. You begin to have joy and peace because you know God is working behind the scenes on your behalf.

What are you believing for God to do in your life today? Can you see it in your mind's eye? Can you see yourself healed? Can you see yourself paying off that last debt? Can you see yourself at your ideal weight? Can you see yourself sharing the gospel with a family member or coworker? Ask the Lord to give you the picture of what He sees when He looks at you. As you open your heart and allow God's thoughts to become your thoughts, and your receive His promises by faith, just like it says in the above verse — whatever you ask for in prayer will be yours!

 What's most important to you? Why is it important? Jesus emphasizes all throughout his ministry that three things are of supreme importance: loving God with all our heart, loving our neighbor, and seeking after God's Kingdom. If we do those things, everything else will fall into place; the hand of the Creator will be there helping each thing find its proper place. He knows what we need. He has a plan for our lives. He will meet our needs. Does this mean things will be easy or always go well for us? No. If our hero was crucified on a cross, do you think we're less vulnerable? But God does assure his Kingdom seekers that we will ultimately get what we seek; we will share with the King in his Kingdom in all of his glory. In addition, in seeking after Kingdom values, we will bless those we love, we will have a redemptive influence on those around us, and we will have all that we really need in life.

Day 23 - God Promises: 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV)

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work



Why would someone be hesitant to give to meet the needs of others? One reasonable concern might be fear that we won't have enough left over to meet our own needs. In this way, giving for Christians becomes an act of faith, trusting God to meet our needs while becoming the method by which He meets the needs of others.

Christians can afford to trust the God who loves us. He has already proven Himself faithful by giving us His grace through our faith in Jesus. He has given us all things forever in Christ. That knowledge should help Christians to be convinced He can be counted on to continue to make all grace abound to us. He will make it so we have "enough" of all things at all times so we can accomplish the good works He wants to see from us.

Christians who give generously are convinced that the source of their provision will not run out—because that source is God Himself!

We all have times when our plans don't work out. We get delayed, interrupted and inconvenienced. It's easy to get frustrated and fight against everything that doesn't go our way. But, not every interruption is bad. Every closed door doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. Every delay doesn't mean you're not where you're supposed to be. There is something I call a divine interruption where God, on purpose, will delay us to protect us from an accident. On purpose, He will close a door because it's not His best. Sometimes, God will allow us to be inconvenienced so we can help someone else in need. We have to be willing to press through difficulty so we can be at the right place at the right time.

The next time you're interrupted, delayed or inconvenienced, don't start thinking, "This is a pain. This is getting me off schedule." No, get a new perspective. Look for what God wants to do because it could be divine interruption or divine protection. Trust Him today because He is directing your steps.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

"Father, thank You for choosing me. I surrender every area of my mind, will and emotions to You. Use me for Your glory today and teach me to discern Your ways in Jesus' name. Amen."

David found courage to pray his prayer to the almighty God, Who had proved faithful and true, throughout past generations. Now, O Lord GOD, David continued, You are God, and Your words are truth, and You have promised this good thing to Your servant.

The promise that the Lord made to David, is indeed, wonderful, and will be fulfilled at Christ's return to earth to set up His kingdom - but the many precious promises that He has given to you and to me are no less wonderful. Let us never take our salvation for granted,. and let us never treat as insignificant our eternal position in Christ, our future inheritance, the forgiveness of sins and everlasting life - for what God has said He will fulfill - not because of who we are.. but for the honour of His holy name and to the glory of Jesus Christ - our God and Saviour.
